Never Too Old for an Internship

I have been looking for new work recently. I’m hardly the only person who is in this position right now. Maybe others have noticed something that I’ve noticed which is that there are a lot of internship positions that are being advertised right now.

I have been working for over fifteen years. This makes me feel like I’m too old to consider doing an internship. However, a friend insists that I’m not too old at all. He says that I should do an internship for the following reasons:

It’ll get me back in the office. I’ve been working from home for a long time so this could be a good thing. I might be able to start back in an intern position whereas a hired position might be more difficult to obtain.
I could learn a new industry. There’s a cool internship position at a boutique clothing store called Room Seven. I don’t know anything about this industry but I could learn through an internship position. It would be like getting a fresh start.
It would get me a foot in the door. It’s never good to be so snobby that you can’t accept a way into employment just because you think it might be beneath your skill level.

Careers Requiring Tactical Equipment

People who are interested in doing jobs that serve and protect others while placing themselves at risk are probably going to find themselves doing work that requires them to use tactical equipment. This equipment may include wireless phone headsets, bulletproof clothing, 2 way radios and other related equipment.

Some of the careers that require the use of tactical equipment include:

Military careers. There are many different career positions within the different military branches that require the use of tactical equipment. Military personnel are trained in the use of this equipment.
Homeland security careers. Those people who enter homeland security work through some other means than going through the military channels may also end up needing to use tactical equipment.
Law enforcement. Some people who are working in law enforcement may go through situations which require them to make use of tactical equipment.
Other public safety positions. Basically anyone who is in a position that requires the individual to protect the safety of the public could have a reason to use at least some types of tactical equipment.

My uncle was a food man. After twenty years as a commercial food broker my uncle took a week off and found a new purpose in life. Seeing the need for relief workers my uncle travelled to New Orleans after hurricane Katrina. The trip motivated him to start his own relief agency. Adopt a hurricane family assists families with temporary housing after hurricanes, tornados or other catastrophic events that displace families.

My aunt has the same gift of community involvement. After retiring as a nurse my aunt still works with community groups in home health care training. As a specialist in home care training my aunt assist families by educating them in elderly care. In addition to small classes she refers clients to access online caregiver training books and products. Many of the families she assists have homebound relatives that are recovering from surgery or are elderly.

My aunt and uncle are part of the everyday people of America that inspire the nation. Their action on a community level is a great example of classic American values. As we enter into this holiday season think about volunteering in your community. One person can truly make a big difference in the community.
