Going to Court

It is unfortunate that we as humans sometimes make bad decisions, but it happens. My best friend Alex made a big mistake just a couple of weeks ago right after a party we were at. She was drinking a little bit too much and decided to drive home.

But the problem was that she got into an accident and was charged with driving under the influence. Now, this isn’t a charge to be taken lightly by any means and could mean serious repercussions for her future. One mistake like this can change everything.

Thankfully her parents have found her the best Tampa DUI lawyer to defend her and based on their track record, she should be able to get out of this sticky situation. I just hope for her sake that she gets off the hook, otherwise this incident is something that will haunt her for her entire life.

We are going to court today, and we are both hoping that the outcome is good. Everything has been prepared so that Alex should come out victorious, but until the judge decides on the outcome of the court case, we will all have to wait patiently.

Honoring Our Veterans and Doing Homework

Even though today is Remembrance Day, it seems that there is no escaping school work. I guess that goes without saying since I am in college (do we ever get a day off where we can do nothing?), but it would be nice to have some time off.

But even though I have taken advantage of today to work on my term paper on the side effects of HGH, I still made the time to honor our veterans. I realize that I was not around for any real wars in my lifetime, but I am thankful that people risked (and lost their lives) to ensure that we have the freedoms we do today.

Instead of just attending one of the many ceremonies that were going on in town today, I made a commitment to volunteer at one of them in our community. It was nice to see a large number of us students take the time and effort to participate in today’s ceremonies and you could see that the veterans in attendance were happy to see that there were youth getting involved.

I still have a lot of work to do on my paper, but I am confident that I will get done on time despite the fact that I didn’t work on it all day.

Memories of Parents Fighting

I have a lot of bad memories about my parents fighting when I was a kid. They never got violent with one another. There wasn’t any crazy abuse that burned its way into my brain. It’s just that they yelled all of the time. They never hid their fights from us kids. And that’s made me convinced of the importance of doing your arguing with your spouse when your kids aren’t around.

We used to take a family vacation in Canada every year. All that I remember about those vacations to Canada is that my parents would fight about them for weeks before we actually went. Canada is an amazing place and there are many beautiful things to see. I barely remember any of them but I remember those familial battles. I wish that my parents had hid their fighting so I could have had better memories of Canada.

I’m not saying that you should sugar coat life for your kids. I’m not saying they should never see you disagree. But if you can’t contain yourself from having a full-on fight with your spouse then at least contain it to a time and place when you’re kids aren’t around. You really don’t want them remembering those times.

Issues Controlling My Diabetes

So, I’ve been having a lot of trouble lately. I’ve been a diabetic for a while, but I’ve only recently gone on insulin, and it’s made me gain an insane amount of weight. The extra weight, in turn, means that my natural insulin (and the insulin I’m injecting) is less effective, so I need to take more, which (you guessed it) in turn makes me gain more weight. I just feel like I’m at the end of my rope, and to make matters worse, I’m in a bad position for my health. I’m trying to look into alternative therapies, but I’m having trouble finding some. Although I did hear that human growth hormone supplements can actually help manage blood sugar and insulin levels, my doctor hasn’t recommended that for me. Should I approach my doctor about it? Is it possible that this is one of the HGH side effects?

Someone tried explaining it to me, something about how it increases muscle mass and so makes your blood sugar more effective, but I didn’t completely understand it. Also, I’m over 18, so I don’t know if HGH is only effective when you’re younger or not. I guess it wouldn’t be, because otherwise baseball players wouldn’t want it, right? I think I should probably ask my doctor about it.

Looking For Information On Dog Breed

My husband and I are looking at adopting a puppy. Our family pet died a few months ago and we think we are ready to open our home once again to a dog. The thing is we aren’t sure what breed to go with. We’ve always had larger dogs, but now that we are getting older, we want a breed that is a bit smaller and easier to handle. I also love the idea of having our dog up on the couch and there still being room for the two of us! I’d love a teacup poodle but my husband doesn’t want a dog quite that small. I think going that small would be too much of a change for him.

We’ve done some research and have narrowed it down to two breeds: Boston terrier and Pembroke Welsh Corgi. Both seem like great dogs and we are completely torn. My husband is leaning more towards the Boston terrier, but I just think Corgis are adorable. Does anyone have any experience with either breed? Some information from someone who has dealt first hand with both or either breeds would be very helpful. Reading up on the dogs was very helpful, but I’d love to hear from someone who has owned them.

Trying to Find Just the Right Lifestyle

My sister and I sort of are constantly looking around for a good Diet. I don’t know what it is, but we’ve had to fight weight gain all of our lives. She, in particular, has a hard time keeping the fat off of her thighs.

Our dilemma is not so much that there isn’t anything out there to help with Weight Loss. The dilemma is finding an eating style that will prevent us from gaining weight in the first place. Gosh, I wish we were able to eat a filling breakfast, a lunch besides a salad, a nice sweet or chocolate in the afternoon and then meat and potatoes at night. But if we do that, we gain weight.

I guess the only answer to wanting to eat somewhat normally is to exercise a lot. I guess I need to find a good gym for the lazy middle-aged mother type. I’ve heard that 24 Hour Fitness is pretty good, but can anyone tell me whether those Curves for Women center aren’t better? I’ve heard that the latter is pretty expensive. I also have to take into consideration child care and location.

Can anyone who lives in Castle Rock, Colorado in particular tell me about the best place here?

Funny Sibling Memories

I was recently trying to explain about sibling memories to a friend who is an only child. By sibling memories I mean those ridiculous memories that you have with your siblings that absolutely no one else could understand because they’re so related to the way that you grew up.

The one that came to mind when I was talking to my friend was this time when my siblings and I dressed up in these humongous plus size halloween costumes and oversized costume hats and then hid in my dad’s room and scared him when he came in. It’s too hard to describe why this was so funny because there are so many other memories tied to it but my siblings and I crack up with uncontrollable laughter every time this memory comes up in conversation.

I can’t imagine being an only child and having no one to share these memories with. Sure, you have private memories with friends and other relatives but there’s something about the sibling relationship (and the fact that you were with your siblings so often as a kid) that make those memories truly unique. I’m glad I have siblings to enjoy those with. Life seems like it would be so boring without them!

Making Preparations For the Baby

I found some really great maternity trousers in the maternity wear online last week which I am really excited about. It has been so much fun shopping for new clothes for when I am showing even more. I got the cutest shirt the other day and have been wearing it as much as possible. We have also been doing a lot of other baby shopping like getting the crib all ready and all the toys that we want to have at home to welcome the baby to the world.

We have bought lots of stuffed animals that I hope the baby will like for many years to come. I even have my old stuffed bear named Bear Bear that looks a lot more like a dog than a bear but that never really mattered to me and probably will not matter much to the new baby either. We have also been stocking up on all the different baby books that we can get our hands on to try to learn as much as we possibly can before the big day. We have a few names picked out that we would like to call the baby, but we thought we should meet him or her first. So exciting.

Storing Extra Belongings

When my younger sister moved in with us to attend school, I couldn’t believe all of the stuff that she brought with her! I think she brought everything she owned and then some. While my husband and I live in a nice sized house, there was no way that we had the room to store all of her stuff. We tried storing it all in the basement, but there just wasn’t enough room. I had to walk through a minefield of her belongings every time I went to use the washer and dryer or get something out of the deepfreeze.

After about a week of this, I suggested that we look into renting a self storage unit. There was a wonderful Queen Creek storage place close by and I told my sister I’d pay for it, since she was still in school. I leased the space for a year and was pleasantly surprised that it didn’t cost a fortune. She agreed and we went through all of her stuff so she could pick out what was essential to keep with her. Everything else went to the storage facility and I could finally move around in my house again. I certainly didn’t miss the obstacle course in the basement.

Keeping People Away From My Dumpster

I own a small microbrewery. Even though it is small, I have tons of garbage. Literally tons of used grains. I have to rent a dumpster because I have so much trash. Even though I keep it behind the building, people use it all of the time. And I’m not talking about a stray wrapper or lone napkin. People actually throw their bags of garbage away in it. It really makes me crazy. My wife thinks that I make too big a deal of it but I just don’t want people using my dumpster. First of all, I pay for it. If they need one, they can pay for their own. Second, I don’t like not knowing what people are throwing away in it. People could be throwing away dangerous chemicals or who knows what. Finally, it really makes me nervous that people seems to be coming to the back of my building with some frequency. It’s dark back there and there is really no reason for anyone to go back there. I don’t relish the idea of leaving my brewery one night and running into someone who snuck back there to through away their garbage.

I got temporary fencing to put around the dumpster. I figured that it will at least make it a little more difficult for people to drag their garbage back there. It’s convenient too because it’s made up of temporary fencing panels so I can take it down pretty quickly for garbage pickup.
