The Family Scholar

Last year at a concert, the singer explained her daughter was in second grade, then she went on to explain when you have a child in second grade, you’re in grade school as well. As a non-traditional age college student, I wondered if my husband felt like an undergrad as well. A few months after we married I returned to school full time. A college education brings a lot of rewards and many sacrifices.
I attend a local college, but many of my friends are pursuing an online college degree. Either way the hours of study and completing assignments add up. My husband has been a real trooper over the past two years and I’m extremely grateful for his love and endurance. Especially since I’ve been eyeing master degree programs online.
I graduate this spring and my husband is already planning a small celebration vacation. We can’t go too far, for too long in this economy. My husband has talked about getting his online associate degree, and I wonder if I’ll be as good a sport as he has been. Through the college experience our new marriage has faced a few challenges. We missed quite a few date nights, and family events due to my school schedule. I hope if my husband returns to school I can offer the same support.
