Family Fire Safety

Every year there are millions of fires that result in death and injuries in the United States. Many of these fatalities may have been prevented if fire safety tips had been known and followed. The Sleep Products Safety Council lists several of these tips to keep your family safe from fires inside the home. Some of the suggestions are listed below.

First of all, every family should create and practice using a fire escape plan so that all family members are aware of the procedures. When there is a fire in your house, you will need to act quickly and taking time to make sure that everyone is out may not be an option. Map out an escape route from all entrances of the home, including windows. Placing a ladder somewhere near the upstairs of your house is an excellent idea. Make sure that everyone knows the safe meeting place outside of the home.

Children should be taught simple fire prevention tips also, like not playing with matches and keeping their beds, bedding and comforters away from space heaters. Parents need to tell their children also that none of their belongings are worth getting hurt over, so make sure that they don’t stop to get anything. Their possessions, unlike lives, can be replaced.
