Looking for information on biofeedback

I’ve been hearing a lot lately about using meditation to help with certain illnesses like chronic fatigue and migraines. One thing that I keep coming across is the suggestion to use biofeedback as a diagnostic tool to help direct diagnosis, control and relief of these illnesses.
Does anyone have any experience with biofeedback training? I’m wondering if it could help me with insomnia and weight gain. I don’t want to have to rely on sleeping pills to help me sleep, but I know I need something to help me. I’m averaging about three hours of sleep a night, and as a result my metabolism is all screwed up and I’m gaining weight like crazy. I’ve done a bit of reading on biofeedback and meditation, but I’m curious to see if anyone has had any personal success with it.
I’m also wondering about the different biofeedback equipment that can be used and if one is better than the other. I know the most commonly used piece of equipment is a machine that works by hooking up electronic sensors to the patient on different parts of their body. Is this the best way to go? Maybe it’s the only way to go, I’m not sure. Any information will be helpful.
